It seems that nearly every band, even those which come from the U.S. neglect it when touring. And if they happen to come to the U.S they go to fucking California three times, and states like Arizona where no one lives, and not even colorado once! It sucks liking metal here:(

I was going to go see Sonata Arctica for the first time in San Marcos back in December, was very psyched for it. And then I double-check a week before the concert, only to find that it's San Marcos, CALIFORNIA, not San Marcos, TEXAS. And yeah, SA hit California three times and the southern states not once, as I recall.

Oh well, at least Texas isn't as neglected as Colorado, I guess. We've have a couple big concerts held here.

Honestly the US is far from the worst in terms of good bands touring here, it's not as good as living in western Europe but at least we get them more often than Asia (excluding Japan). Or hell, Africa.

Lilyael, it may suck that England only gets one show, whereas on the last tour the US got a couple dozen shows... but keep in mind that 1. some US states are considerably larger than your whole country, 2. not every state got its own show, and 3. those that did only got one (except California, which is much bigger in area than England and has almost as large a population). Traveling to say France or Belgium is probably easier for you than the trips a lot of Americans had to make (though I'm fortunate, they've hit one of my favorite venues on both tours, one that's only a little over an hour away).

BG never plays in the Netherlands either! Some people think they do, but in reality they just play in Belgium (Tilburg) or Germany (Rijssen). :(

Problem is that most bands that come over here only hit major Northern cities. The South and South East in general are highly neglected places. It seems everyone wants to do NYC, Virginia, Chicago, a few random locations here and there, LA, another California date.

That's the worst part.

It's because the US is so huge man. It's literally like a full Europe tour just to tour the US. Well over 300 million people--Colorado has ~5million people and Arizona has 6.5million. I live in Los Angeles, and I have sadly witnessed many "big" name metal bands play shows in venues seating several hundred max. When I was going to school up in Sacramento, I saw Nightwish and Sonata Arctica play in a venue that must have "seated" no more than 200 people, and it wasn't nearly full. And that's in Sacramento, a metropolitan area of probably a million people or so.

Europe's populations are much more concentrated into smaller areas compared to the US, but also there simply is a much bigger audience for it there. It makes for very complicated touring schedules. As soon as a band becomes big in the US, they start doing ridiculously huge tours here because they finally have big enough audiences to support a full out US tour. Bands like Pink Floyd in their hayday could go through even the smallest populated states and draw huge audiences from well across state lines for them.

I can't complain, Montreal gets most of the good bands and i am thankful about it.

So it just turned out that not only is my hometown one of the stops for Sonisphere again next year afterall, it'll be headlined by friggin' Iron Maiden.
Heaven and Hell have been announced as well, but I suppose we'll have to see how Ronnie recovers before taking that for granted.

Still, the thought... Iron Maiden and Ronnie James Dio et al, on the same two day festival, in this dunghole of a town. Fucking blows my mind.

And think of a 2.000 people rural town in the middle of nowhere, 70 KM north of Hamburg in Germany, that has more cows than inhabitants and is too small to have a train station :P

They don't. The land is just dirt cheap and the houses cost nothing either, so people who can put up with the weather/being in middle of nowhere have incentives to be there. Otherwise noone would. Personally I couldn't stand it

Hammerfall is coming to denver in April, this is probably going to be one of the few concerts I will go to next year. I like going to local concerts though, except there's no local power metal so the only local music that's decent is black metal. I'm hopefully going to a show on the 2nd.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but in Hawaii there is a state rule that you can still go to the concert if you have a parent over 20 or 21, regardless of age. Went to Olivia this way. Though is wasn't my parent. :D
