How to make a metal album.

#1 Post by TraneDeracs » 22 Oct 2009 22:58

How to make a metal album:

Switch labels, get musicians who share your "vision" of the power chord and certain tuning. Make sure they can play solos so you don't have to.

Artwork with a cool logo.
Stickers from various magazines detailing how this band is "THE BEST THING SINCE/MODERN DAY [80's Band]" or "Neo-[Old Genre]"
Plastic...and that annoying ass sticker logo thingy up top.
Bands pictures no one ever really looks at anymore....

1.Opener song. Either start riffing in the catchiest way, make an ominous instrumental, or start off with an acoustic.
2.The song most people love. Gets played at concerts quite well. If you don't like this song, it will be on every set list.
3.The song you never listen to, then regret when you leave the concert for not listening to it back in the day.
4.The softer/melodically heavy/scary song that is somehow still heavy.
5.This song is good, but you really don't get why everyone loves it.
6.The ridiculously evil song.
7.The song you are supposed to get drunk and headbang to.
8.This song is good, but you don't get why everyone loves it. It sounds better live.
9. One of the best songs on the album and you never get to hear it live.
10.The “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” of this album. You'll hear it a few times played live, then it will fade into obscurity until the comeback tour.
11.The song everyone doesn't want to hear, has a video (you wonder why they picked this song) and they play it live. You shrug.
12.The “beautiful metal song...of EVIL”.
13.The song everyone knows and you abhor.
14.The song you never listen to....because it was "meh".
15.The Outro...that seems to be better than the entire album.
16.Random Iron Maiden/Slayer/Judas Priest/Motorhead cover.
17.Random Band “no one gave a shit about because they only listened to metal their entire lives and will now care about the band because this band made a cover of it” cover...

We Would Like to Thank: [insert family, friends, and guys with random nicknames], [insert bands that the members were influenced by], [insert every band they've toured with for the past twenty years], and maybe even [insert a random fictional character].

The back of the album. Why did they spend money on "back cover art" you wonder deep down...

Shelf.

I don't think most metal albums have 17 tracks

Let's say...it's their greatest hits collection. Not to mention that you "pick" which ones go past the demo stage.

Then again NiME isn't most metal albums.

When it comes to Metal bands, if you have more than 11 songs it HAS to be a double-CD. If it is a double CD, it MUST be a concept album.
You're going to hell. But not the cool one, that's where I'll go.

Okay. Let's look at things for a second.

Consider for a second the question: is Harvest of Sorrow on all editions of NiME? Well. Perhaps the following hint may help: NiME was released originally in 1998, and Harvest of Sorrow was written only around 2001. If you do a bit of searching, you'll soon find that Harvest of Sorrow only is added on the 2007 re-release of NiME. It's not on the original tracklist of NiME, or on any edition of NiME sold between 1998 and 2006. Repeat me: it's not on the original tracklist of NiME, or on any edition of NiME sold between 1998 and 2006. The only reason why Harvest was added to NiME, is that it connects to the story of the Silmarillion.

I bought NiME back in 1998 when it first came out, and didn't have a clue there was an edition of it with Harvest of Sorrow on it either, until I read this topic.

Go ahead and call me dumb, now. I think I'll call you dumb instead for calling people dumb because of not having knowledge that people who had owned NiME before 2007 probably don't have in general. (Yes. That sentence there is meant to fuck you up.)
You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning',
But the truth is slowly dawning -- things are getting out of hand,
We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin --
Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand.
And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within.

How to make a metal album:

1. Title it 'Nightfall In Middle-Earth'
2. ????
3. Profit!!!
Though the towers of the city are denied to we men of clay
still we know we shall scale the heights some day.
Frightened in the silence -
frightened, but thinking very hard,
let us make computations of the stars.
