Blind Guardian's Mascot

#1 Post by Narvi » 31 Jan 2010 10:43

Hi, guys, I've searched through the forum, but couldn't find any info bout the hooded man on the covers of BG. Who is the artist and etc...
SO if you know anything, please, share :)

Those covers were penned by Andreas Marshall.

10x! I wonder if Hansi has ever mentioned anything about their mascot in interviews. And btw Andreas Marshall didn't paint the Battalions of Fear album, where the hooded guy(s) are first seen.

Hansi spoke about it whenever he was asked. That's kindof the idea behind an interview. ;)

The hooded guy isn't THAT common. By my count, he's appeared on four covers; five, if you count the winged reaper on Another Stranger Me as one of the hooded guys.

I think the hooded guy was referred to as the Keeper on some interview. Not sure. Also, about the number he appears, if you aren't strict on your counting, there are:

1. Battalions of Fear. We can see two hooded guys there, but we can assume the other is his colleague :D
2. Tales from the twilight world. He is sitting in the chair.
3. Somewhere far beyond. There is one hooded person that you cant see his face sitting in the fire.
4. Imaginations from the other side. Standing on the right side of the cover.
5. The Forgotten tales.
6. Live album. There is a hooded person in the back of the alley.
7. Fly single.
8. Night at the opera. Lower right corner
9.Follow the Blind. He is standing in the back.
10.Mr. Sandman single. Inside the mirror.
11. The hooded reaper on Another stranger me, but i wouldn't count that one, except if all of the hooded guys in the previous covers symbolize the grim reaper as well.

I haven't searched any artwork that isn't on the front cover.

He appears on eight albums (Battalions of Fear, Follow the Blind, Tales from the Twilight World, Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations from the Other Side, The Forgotten Tales, A Night at the Opera, and Live), and on at least two singles (Fly and Another Stranger Me: I'm tempted to count The Bard's Song (In the Forest), but that fellow doesn't quite toe the mark). So of the twenty-one [legitimate] releases Blind Guardian has put out since their conception (counting Lucifer's Heritage demos), the Hooded Fellow has appeared ten times.

Also about the another stranger me im not so sure. He seems like a different guy. Not the same hood and he looks more like an ethereal being. Not to mention the wings.

It could be different, or they have just changed It a little bit (re-invented) like Maiden has done for eddie for so many times. Personally I think that's (another stranger me hoodiee) much more badass then the other hood guy

1. Tokyo tales
2. A past and future secret
3. Mirror Mirror
4. Nime
5. And then there was silence
6. Bard's song
7. The DvD
8. A twist in the myth

Very keen eyes on some of you guys!

But personally, there's a few I don't really count. I don't count SFB because he's a obviously a party member whose face we just can't see, and I don't count TBS and ANatO because you can see his face. Still up in the air about ASM.

Additionally, while his likeness appears on IftOS, it's not really him, but a statuette of him.

I prefer the normal hooded guy, he seems very BG.

The Reaper guy suits ATITM, but I want him to stay there :)

Also, does anyone know why they went with digital cover art this time? Maybe because of Nuclear Blast?
Also, it seems the Another Stranger Me single is painted, did Marshall do it?
I can't think of anything clever to put here.

Walter O' Dim is the official mascot of Blind Guardian?

They should do a concept album based on "The Stand" or "Eyes of the Dragon" now...
Or the first Dark Tower novel. That would be perfect.

Is this hooded guy really a kind of official mascot of Blind Guardian? Something like Eddie for Iron Maiden? At least I have never heard anybody from the band mentioning anything like that in interviews

Indeed, and i don't think Blind guardian really care about commercial stuff like mascots, only their music.

Well If you look at the albums, almost all of them include the blind guardian so I really think it is kind of a mascot, they just don't make it as visible and as important as for example Maiden (Much more visible in artworks and Is a part of the live shows)

Guys! Guys! I found the hooded man on a "And Then There Was Silence" album cover!!!

I looked through all the album covers, looking for the hooded man, AKA, the blind guardian.
At first, I didn't notice anything on the ATTWS cover, but I decided to check again to be sure. When I saw it, I was shocked.

Here is the image that I looked at.

Ok, it might be hard to see, but I circled it. You can see it in my next image.

In this image, I circled the area where you can find the blind guardian. Amazing, isn't it?

Isn't that just crazy?
You just looked at my signature.

What training is needed to become a sport team mascot, and what is the salary? I think a sport team mascot would be a fun job. But, I know nothing about the career. Can someone help?

On NiME he's on the left. In the back you see an axe or a halberd and under it you can see him.
By the way I've just noticed again what a great artwork the cover of NiME is.
